As I mentioned in the Carcassonne part, on our way back we came across another medieval bastide founded in the 12th century by the Count of Toulouse. This village is situated in Midi-Pyrénées region on southern France. Lauzerte is listed in the Most Beautiful Villages of France (among other 155). It is beautiful, but seems to me it is abandoned as a lot of houses are uninhabited...But this village has its own character and medieval atmosphere....and I had the best tomato salad ever for dinner in the local resto.
An unknown town where we saw the road (not on the photo) sign leading us to Lauzerte:

The Way of St. James (le pélerinage de st-Jacques de Compostelle) goes through Lauzerte. It was one of the most important Christian pilgrimages during medieval times. Here you can see the sign Compostelle 1137 km. To the right there is the modern symbol of the way (scallop is the symbol of pilgrimage). Nowadays, thousands of people take this way to St. James.

I noticed that people here like to personalize their homes. Almost every owner has his own way to introduce his place. A flower or...

People live rather...how should I put it?...open, may be...I walked along the street and a lot of doors were open and people were sitting and dinning and saying Bonjour to us. I felt like I was in someone's kitchen -)
